Homemade Breadcrumbs

Hello!

Ever wonder what to do with leftover, unused, stale Italian bread? Well, why not make some delicious homemade breadcrumbs? Don’t let that delicious bread go to waste. This is the perfect way to use it up.

Homemade breadcrumbs taste so much more flavorful and fresh than the store-bought. I made a nice, big batch and used a massive mason jar to store the freshly made breadcrumbs in the freezer.

It’s important to keep the breadcrumbs in the freezer (not the refrigerator) after you make them so they don’t get moldy. They won’t actually freeze, though, so you could easily scoop as much or as little as you need from the mason jar or container.

They’re very easy to whip up, and great for using as breading on your favorite recipes.

Enjoy!

 Ingredients:

  • 2 loaves of Italian bread, just about stale
  • 2 tbsp. of dried parsley flakes
  • 3 tbsp. of garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp. of onion powder
  • 2 tbsp. of Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp. of paprika
  • 2 cups of Pecorino Romano, grated

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 275 degrees.
  • Slice the bread 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cube the bread.
  • Line a baking dish with aluminum foil and scatter the cubed bread on the baking sheet.
  • Bake the bread for 40 minutes, tossing occasionally on the tin.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  • Add bread to a food processor and blend until fine. (I did this a little at a time)
  • Add all seasonings and Pecorino Romano to the food processor and pulse until well blended.
  • Container the breadcrumbs in Mason jars or other containers and place in the freezer.
  • Use as needed.
